How affordable is Seattle for those looking to get married and buy a house in the same year?

Getting married and buying a house in the same year? If you are living in Seattle, you might want to divide and conquer. Emerald City is the 6thleast affordable metro area to do so in, according to a new report by Redfin

The company took a closer at the American dream which for some entails purchasing a home in the same year as tying the knot. Unsurprisingly, the correlation between a median sales price and an average wedding cost is quite strong. Redfin ranked the metro areas by taking a down payment (20% of median list price) and adding it to an average cost of a wedding in the same area.

The most expensive place to get married and buy a house is, unsurprisingly, San Francisco. The average cost of a wedding in that area is $40,000 and a down payment on a median-priced property a staggering $285,000. Los Angeles is in second place and New York City metro rounds out the top three. Seattle comes in sixth place – the average cost of a wedding is $25,000 while the average list price is $599,950, bringing the average median down payment to $119,990, according to the report.
