Number of million-dollar zip codes in Seattle has doubled in the last ten years

Zillow recently released a report on the amount of million-dollar zip codes in United States – and Seattle is, once again, ranking highly.

The Stroupe Group’s James Stroupe represented the Sellers of Unit 2704 in one of Seattle’s premier million-dollar zip codes: 98101. Unit 2704 sold for $2,900,000 in May of 2017.

Zillow defines a “million-dollar” zip code as one in which more than ten percent of properties are valued at $1 million or more – sky is the limit. An interesting measure of the recovery of the housing market, the amount of million-dollar zip codes in the United States is staggering. According to the report’s findings, more than one in twenty-five zip codes qualifies to be on the list – almost 1,300 zip codes total.

Million-dollar zip codes are mostly found in the same metro areas that are making news for rising property values, such as Seattle. According to Zillow, San Jose leads the list, with a staggering 77% of all zip codes in that metro area making the list. San Francisco is a close second, with 74% of zip codes qualifying.

Seattle is not far behind. A mere ten years ago, only nineteen of our beautiful city’s zip codes made the list, per the report. Today, that number has doubled to thirty-eight – an incredible 24% of the metro area’s zip codes. Examples of zip codes that made the list are Downtown Seattle ones, such as 98121 and 98101 – areas that include Belltown and First Hill.
