World’s Most Sustainable High-rise Building Breaks Ground in Seattle
The world’s most sustainable apartment building, 303 Battery, has broken ground in Belltown. It will be the world’s first multifamily project to meet the net zero energy requirements set by International Living Futures Institute, per a recent press release.
Sustainable Living Innovations is the builder behind the project. It will utilize the company proprietary technology, which relies on a unique panel system. The building will be constructed of 900 panels which will be pre-manufactured offsite, in Tacoma. These panels are unique in that electrical, plumbing and mechanical elements will be pre-installed in them. After the below grade level and foundation are completed, the panels will arrive to be assembled onsite. Due to less on-site construction work required, 303 Battery will go up much quicker than a traditional building.
The building will utilize many sustainable solutions. Solar panels will be installed on the roof as well as the exterior walls and balconies. There will be radiant heating in units as well as captured rainwater. In addition, there will be daylight sensors that will help reduce power usage throughout the building according to the press release.
303 Battery is expected to be ready for occupancy in summer of 2022. It will feature 112 units, with 27 of those designated as affordable. We will make sure to update you on the progress.Email
